Laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia Repair with Fundoplication

This is a surgery done through small cuts in the belly to fix a hiatal hernia and stop acid reflux. It has two main steps:
Hiatal Hernia Repair: The surgeon moves the stomach back into the belly from the chest area and fixes the hole in the diaphragm.
Fundoplication: The top part of the stomach is wrapped around the bottom of the esophagus to stop stomach acid from coming back up.
Indications for Surgery:
Hiatal Hernia: When part of your stomach pushes through the muscle (diaphragm) into your chest, which can cause heartburn and discomfort.
GERD (Reflux): Long-term acid reflux that doesn’t get better with medicine or diet changes.
Esophageal Strictures: A narrowing of the food pipe caused by acid damage.
Barrett’s Esophagus: A change in the lining of the esophagus due to constant acid reflux, which can raise the risk of cancer.
Procedure:
Anesthesia: You’ll be given medicine to sleep deeply and not feel any pain during surgery.
Small Cuts: The surgeon makes 3 to 5 small cuts in your belly.
Camera Inserted: A small camera shows the inside of your body on a screen.
Fixing the Hernia: The surgeon moves your stomach back to the right place and fixes the opening in the diaphragm muscle.
Wrapping the Stomach: The top part of your stomach is gently wrapped around the bottom of your food pipe to help keep acid in the stomach.
Closing the Cuts: The small cuts are closed with stitches or surgical glue.
Advantages of Laparoscopic Colorectal Resection:
Smaller Cuts: Less pain, less scarring, and faster healing than traditional surgery.
Quick Recovery: You’ll likely go home sooner and feel better faster.
Lower Infection Risk: Small cuts mean a lower chance of infection.
